This audio slideshow – to accompany a New Yorker piece on Africans living in China – seems like a missed opportunity here. Its international stories seem to be the ones the NY targets for multimedia work, and it makes sense: there aren’t many other places running slideshows on Guanghzhou, so you’re guaranteed uniqueness.

That said, this slideshow is completely uninspiring. The pictures are underwhelming, and the narrative itself, while interesting, doesn’t make me want to go out and buy a copy of the print edition to read the article – which is at least half the goal of one of these slideshows until online ads pick up.
